Background of the study
Seasonal discounts are commonly used by retailers to increase consumer traffic and boost sales during certain times of the year, such as holidays, festive seasons, or end-of-year sales. Discounts have long been seen as an effective tool in influencing consumer shopping behavior by encouraging increased purchases, attracting new customers, and promoting customer loyalty (Ogundele & Ojo, 2023). In Kogi State, shopping malls utilize seasonal discount strategies to enhance their sales during peak periods. Despite the widespread use of discounts, there is a need to understand how different types of seasonal discounts influence consumer decisions, purchase frequency, and spending behavior in the context of Nigerian retail shopping.
The dynamic retail environment in Kogi State presents an opportunity to explore how consumer behavior is impacted by various seasonal discounting techniques, such as flash sales, Black Friday deals, or holiday promotions. By analyzing consumer responses to these promotions, the study will provide insights into the effectiveness of discount strategies in fostering brand loyalty, increasing sales volume, and shaping long-term shopping habits.
This study aims to investigate the impact of seasonal discounts on consumer shopping behavior within Kogi State's shopping malls, focusing on factors like purchase frequency, consumer spending, and decision-making processes.
Statement of the problem
Although seasonal discounts are widely implemented across shopping malls in Kogi State, the actual impact of such discounts on consumer shopping behavior remains under-researched. Retailers face the challenge of determining the most effective discount models to attract customers without sacrificing profitability. The effectiveness of seasonal discounts in shaping long-term shopping habits, influencing impulse buying, and boosting mall foot traffic needs to be critically analyzed to optimize retail strategies. This study seeks to address the gap in understanding the relationship between seasonal discounts and consumer shopping behavior.
